Professor R.W.Pickford (1903-1986) Glasgow University, reminiscences 1973.
The recording was made in Manchester, 4th June 1973.

Professor Pickford talks of the early days of psychology in Aberdeen, the growth of the department in Glasgow, his interest and work in colour blindness, in aesthetics, abnormal psychology and psychoanalysis and his memories of undergraduate and post-graduate days in Cambridge are among the topics covered in the recording.

Dr Ralph Hetherington (1917-2000) Liverpool University, BPS Secretary General and future President 1982-1983, reminiscences.
The recording was made in Dr Hetherington's room, Department of Psychiatry, University of Liverpool, June 8th 1973

Dr Hetherington talks of his teachers at University College London, undergraduate and post-graduate including J C Flugel, Stanley F Philpott, Charlotte Banks and Max Hamilton using hipp chronoscope; his work as a psychologist in Aycliffe Approved School under John Gittins and Ricahrd H Adams and at the Crichton Royal , Dumfries with John Raven (Director 1943-1964), William Mayer-Gross and Martin Roth , and the development of clinical psychology in the Liverpool department ( Stephen Barton Hall, Frank Fish) are among the topics covered in the recording. Relationships with psychiatrists, role of testing, Eysenck, building psychologist-patient relationship; He refers also to going to BPS conferences in the 1950s (with Thouless, Rex Knight, Valentine), books which have influenced him and briefly to his imminent move to the post of Secretary-General of the BPS.
