Description | Typed text of J.C.Kenna's conversation with Dr Robert R.Rusk (1879-1972), FBPsS , Educator, University of Glasgow, First Director Scottish Council for Research in Education.at his home in Inverness, Scotland on the 29th August, 1968.
Dr Rusk talked of his early education in Scotland - a scholarship from Ayr Grammar School to Ayr Academy and then Glasgow University, studying at Jena, Germany under R C Eucken (1846-1926). Teaching at the University Correspondence Course in Cambridge included teaching F C Bartlett, then working with C S Myers and Ward towards his Cambridge degree (by research - His examiners were W H R Rivers and Dawes Hicks) and then after the war a PHD.
Teaching logic at Dundee/St Andrews University, meeting Alexander Mackie (1876-1955) Kimmins, McDougall. Giving papers at British Association meeting in 1912 'Movement in Handwriting - first on experimental education. Using the Binet test on clever children 'supernormal'. teaching at Jordonhill, Friendship with Godfrey Thomson, impressions of Spearman. Creation of the Scottish Council for Research in Education.
