Description | Handwritten and typed notes on a visit to Mrs. Brenda Zara Seligman (1883-1965), FRAI, Anthropologist, at her home in London on Friday March 1st, 1957. Present were J.C.Kenna and Dr Peter McKellar.
Seligman worked together with her husband Charles Gabriel Seligman researching and writing about communities in Sri Lanka, Sudan, Egypt, China and Japan.
Interview concentrates mostly on Charles. His relationships with C S Myers, S H Ray and A H Wilkin - 1898 Torres Straits expedition [See PHO/001/03/08/29 photograph of expedition]. Friendship with W H R Rivers and Henry Head. memories of Rivers. Trip to New Guines with Major Cooke-Daniels and W M Mersh Strong. 1910-1927 Lectureship in Ethnology at LSE. Appointment to Moss Side Hospital, Maghull in 1917 [See AUD/001//46/04 Bernard Hart - who was also at Maghull]. Visit of Jung to Seligman home on route to East Africa c. 1925. Friendship of Geza Roheim (1891-1953). Mrs Seligimans' experiences of Sudan. Visit to Yale in 1938.
Brenda Salaman married Charles Gabriel Seligman in 1905. |
