| Description | 2-Audio taped interviews of Maarten Derksen interviewing Dr Jeffrey Alan Gray (1934-2004) and Victor Meyer (d. 2005) in 1999. 46 minutes long. WAV and MP3 version.
Career. one year psychology course, little hands on with patient. Psychologists viewed with suspicion by medics. Much of the work was testing. no cognitive therapy - behavioural therapy was in its infancy. Reg Beech was his supervisor - first time tried exposure therapy on an obsessive compulsive patient. Used one of Monte Shapiro's interview studies. Oxford two year clinical psychology course. Cuts out for a few second on 12 minutes. Helpfulness of studying statistics during Phd. at the Institute of Psychiatry. Relationship between Eysenck and Monte Shapiro. Eysenck had no contact with the clinical students. Clinical and research sections came back together whether Gray returned to institute in 1983. Eysenck was disliked by psychiatrists because he felt his methods cured patients and their methodologies did not. Gray made a policy to break down barriers with psychiatrists at the Institute which has led to scientific collaboration. Residue of failed previous project on Jack Rackman and Isaac Marks on exposure therapy had meant wariness on collaboration. However after evaluations of the Institute recommended more collaborations. Gray keen on collaboration. Functional MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) started in late 1980s and has made a natural focus to work together. Neuropsychology teams. Personality theory and testing. conditions complexes - very rewarding that therapy worked so well. |
