03 June 2019 BPS responds to Interim NHS People Plan - release promoting statement from BPS Chief Executive Sarb Bajwa welcoming a new long term NHS strategy document 'The Interim Workforce Intergration Plan' which lays foundation of NHS England's 10 year vision for healthcare, in particular the documents focus on mental health provision;

05 June 2019 Industry experts to show how psychology adds value to organisations - release promoting forthcoming Psychology Means Business Conference of July 9 2019 in London. Conference to focus on consumer behaviour, behavioural science and people management:

06 June 2019 Abstract submissions open for BPS Senate - release announcing the re-opening of BPS Senate process. Member Networks encouraged to submit abstracts on preferences for BPS policy priorities. Three proposals will be forwarded then voted on by network chairs;

07 June 2019 The Psychologist goes to the Latitude Festival - release announcing appearance of Professor Andrew Przybylski, Director of Research at the Oxford Internet Institute, at Latitude Festival. This event is supposed by the BPS magazine The Psychologist and will focus on the science behind sensationalist headlines;

10 June 2019 BPS members receive recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours - release promoting BPS members receiving honours. Former BPS President Professor of Social Psychology Dorothy Meill recieved an OBE for services to higher education and psychology, and chartered member Julianne Miles recieved an MBE for services to business and equality;

11 June 2019 Nominations open for Promoting Equality of Opportunity award - release announcing that nominations are open for the BPS award for Promoting Equality of Opportunity. This award honours a psychologist who has made an exceptional contriution to challenging inequality;

14 June 2019 Combating sexual harassment and hate crime in universities - release promoting an independent report 'Catalyst for change: Protecting students from hate crime, sexual violence and online harassment in higher education' commissioned by the Office for Students and co-authored by Society Fellow Graham Towl. Report evaulates the work carried out by Universities to tackle sexual harrassment and hate crime. These initiatives have been funded by the OFS's Catalyst Fund from 2016 onwards.

14 June 2019 First BPS Higher Education Psychology Teacher of the Year announced - release announcing that Chartered BPS member Dr Alana James has been named as the first BPS Higher Education Psychology Teacher of the Year. Award granted by the Division of Academics, Researchers and Teachers in Psychology (DARTP). Dr James' research focuses on peer support and mentoring in educational settings, including support for students with mental health conditions and autism;

14 June 2019 Schools should never threaten to take away break times from schoolchildren as a punishment - release promoting a Division of Educational and Child Psychology position paper, 'Children's right to play'. Paper argues that unstructured play, led by children themselves, is critical to encouraging wellbeing and development;

17 June 2019 BPS says prevention and early intervention are the keys to protecting children’s mental wellbeing - release promoting statement from BPS Chief Executive Sarb Bajwa, welcoming a government commitment to train every new teacher in England to spot the early warning signs of mental health conditions. BPS statement argues that if this commitment is to be realised, it must be combined with a rapid increase in provision of mental health services for children and young people;

25 June 2019 BPS welcomes United Nations report on inequality and mental health - release promoting a report from Dr Dainius Puras, the United Nations' Special Rapporteur on health, entitled 'Right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health'. BPS Chief Executive Sarb Bajwa welcomes report, which argues that tackling inequality is key to preventing mental illness in populations;

25 June 2019 The BPS takes psychology to Westminster in Evidence Week - release promoting BPS contribution to Evidence Week at Westminster. Clinical Psychologist Dr Lisa Shostak and policy adviser Nigel Atter scheduled to staff a BPS 'evidence pod' on the impact of adverse childhood experiences. Evidence Week event oragnised by the BPS, Sense About Science, the select committee, the House of Commons Library and the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology. It is sponsored by SAGE Publishing, Wiley and the London School of Economics.
