03 September 2019 Chartered BPS member begins work as chief fire officer - release promoting the appointment of Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton as chief fire officer with West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service;

04 September 2019 BPS Fellow makes ‘unforgettable mark’ in the fight against HIV - release promoting the recognition of Professor Rusi Jaspal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Professor of Psychology and Sexual Health at De Montfort University, by the Countdown to Zero Partnership, an organisation fighting HIV/AIDS which is supported by the United Nations. Professor Jaspal granted a 'Ten out of Ten' award;

05 September 2019 A memorial event for past BPS President Ian Howarth - release promoting a memorial event for former BPS President, Professor Emeritus Ian Howarth. Event to take place on Monday 9th September at the Nottingham University Staff Club;

05 September 2019 BPS signs pledge to tackle poor mental health - release promoting the BPS signing of the Prevention Concordat for Better Mental Health, an initiative led by Public Health England. The Prevention Concordat states that prevention should be a central priority for improving public mental health. The document has the support of over 40 organisations;

05 September 2019 Maths anxiety affects a third of young children - release promoting study from Abertay University on 'Maths Anxiety'. Study presented at the joint conference of the Cognitive Psychology Section and Developmental Psychology Section in Stokeon-Trent;

10 September 2019 BPS welcomes Public Health England’s review into dependence on prescription drugs - release promoting BPS support for a Public Health England recommendation that new clinical guidance be developed for assisting patients safely transition away from prescribed medicaton, thus avoiding dependence and withdrawal;

13 September 2019 MPs support concerns over NICE depression guidance - release promoting cross party letter issued by more than 60 MPs and Peers expressing concern over National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines on the management of depression. BPS a co-signator of a critique of the guidelines, issued by a coalition of psychological therapy professional bodies;

16 September 2019 Help us show how psychology can prevent poor health - release promoting a Department of Health and Social Care consultation on a document 'Advancing our health: prevention in the 2020s'. BPS calls for members to contribute to a response to the document, making reference to their research or practical case studies;

16 September 2019 Six BPS chartered members elected Fellows of the European Health Psychology Society - release promoting the election of Professor Daryl O’Connor, Chair of the Society’s Research Board, Dr Lucie Byrne-Davis, University of Manchester, Dr Konstadina Griva, National University of Singapore, Professor Jo Hart, University of Manchester, Professor Dame Theresa Marteau, University of Cambridge, Professor Val Morrison, Bangor University and Professor Daryl O’Connor, University of Leeds to the position of fellows of the European Health Psychology Section;

19 September 2019 BPS Northern Ireland members support The Daily Mile - release promoting BPS Northern Ireland Branch members' participation in The Daily Mile, an initiative to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of schoolchildren;

24 September 2019 Mental health support in schools should leave no child behind - release promoting BPS briefing paper 'Mental Health Support Teams: How to maximise the impact of the new workforce for children and young people', which aims to commit the government to reach every child in England with its new Mental Health Support Teams;

24 September 2019 New BPS report shows psychology is key to beating the obesity problem - release promoting a BPS report 'Psychological perspectives on obesity: Addressing policy, practice and research priorities’. The report calls for government to ensure every initiative aimed at promoting a healthy weight is informed by psychological evidence;

30 September 2019 BPS comments on £70m mental health funding announcement - release promoting BPS support for government investment of £70 million in mental health funding. Investment to focus on pilot scheme offering support with housing and employment. BPS expresses some reservations on lack of detail concerning recruitment of new staff to achieve these targets.
