04 December 2019 New guidance for therapists with clients taking prescribed drugs - release promoting BPS guidance document entitled 'Guidance for Psychological Therapists: Enabling conversations with clients taking or withdrawing from prescribed psychiatric drugs'. Document aims to give psychological therapists the information they need to help clients struggling with side effects and withdrawal issues which have resulted from an increase in the prescription of psychiatric drugs;
11 December 2019 BPS sponsors two awards for psychology technicians - release promoting two awards jointly awarded by the BPS and the Association for Technical Staff in Psychology for Psychology technicians. Awards given for excellence in technical support in psychology research and psychology teaching. Nominations requested;
11 December 2019 Four books win awards from the BPS - release promoting the winners of the BPS Book Awards. Honorary Fellow Alan Baddeley won in the Popular Science category for his book 'Working memories: Postmen, divers and the cognitive revolution', Elisabeth Murray, Steven Wise and Kim Graham won in the Academic Monograph category for the book 'The Evolution of memory systems: ancestors, anatomy and adaptions'. The Textbook award was given to Colin Cooper for '‘Psychological testing: Theory and practice’, while Jill Archer was honoured in the Practitioner Text category for her ‘Autism spectrum disorder: Characteristics, causes and practical issues’;
11 December 2019 Help us change how policy is made - release announcing a BPS policy initiative, the 'Psychological Government' programme. Applications requested to join the initiative's Steering Group. Psychologists with experience working in or with a government department are encouraged to apply;
11 December 2019 Psychologists call for mental health support for teachers and students alike - release promoting the outcomes of a recent event organised by the BPS Division of Academics, Researchers, and Teachers (DARTP). Helen Kitchin, chair of DARTP, spoke on the poor mental health of students and teachers in schools, relating this phenonmenon to low funding levels for mental health services. 20 December 2019 BPS joins End Child Poverty coalition - release announcing the BPS joining the End Child Poverty coalition, an group of 50 organisations that campaigns to eradicate child poverty in the UK. |
