01 April 2020 BPS replies to article on psychologists' involvement in the Covid-19 response - Release outlining the BPS response to a negative article on the response of psychologists to Covid-19 published by the website Unherd.com;
08 April 2020 New guidance launched for psychologists using online video for work with young people - Release promoting guidance published by the DCP’s Faculty for Children, Young People and their Families in conjunction with the DCP’s Digital Healthcare Sub-Committee entitled 'Considerations for psychologists working with children and young people using online video platforms'. Document looks at the different needs of young people of varying ages, considering their requirments for effective online therapy;
08 April 2020 BPS welcomes NHS hotline to support staff through pandemic - Release in which BPS President David Murphy praises the launch of a helpline to assist NHS staff through the crisis;
08 April 2020 New BPS advice on supporting teachers’ resilience during school closures - Release promoting BPS guidance document 'Teacher resilience during coronavirus school closures' by Dr Sarah Duffield, Educational Psychologist and Dr Dan O’Hare, Educational Psychologist, Joint chair-elect of the DECP. Guidance seeks to encourage teachers to seek help and build resilience;
09 April 2020 Information on supporting older people and those with dementia during Covid-19 - Release promoting guidance document composed by the DCP's Faculty for the Psychology of Older People entitled 'Supporting older people and people living with dementia during self-isolation'. Document includes advice for older people living in isolation, and those supporting individuals with dementia;
17 April 2020 BPS launches new behaviour change guidance to help reduce spread of Covid-19 - Release promoting BPS guidance document 'Behavioural science and disease prevention: Psychological guidance' Document argues that behavioural science is essential to reducing the spread of Covid-19, as it allows us to understand and change behaviour and anticipate people’s responses to changes in policy;
20 April 2020 Professor Marcia Worrell - Release acknowledging the death of the psychologist and academic Professor Marcia Worrell. Worrell was a former member of the Research Board and Chair of our Psychology of Women and Equalities Section, and was one of relatively few black women Professors in the UK;
21 April 2020 BPS advises meeting the psychological needs of people recovering from severe Coronavirus is important to promoting recovery - Release promoting BPS guidance document 'Meeting the psychological needs of people recovering from severe coronavirus (Covid-19)'. Document outlines a three step approach to supporting patients, as well as outlining the aspects of the pandemic which might increase risk of psychological difficulties;
21 April 2020 BPS welcomes mental health support for NHS workers in Wales - Release welcoming the announcement from NHS Wales that a coronavirus helpline will be expanded from doctors to all NHS Wales staff;
22 April 2020 The psychological needs of healthcare staff as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic - Release promoting BPS guidance document 'The psychological needs of healthcare staff as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic' drafted by the BPS Covid19 Staff Wellbeing Group. Document offers support for leaders and managers of healthcare services who will need to consider the wellbeing needs of all healthcare staff (clinical and non-clinical) as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak. Offers practical advise on how to respond to problems on an individual and organisational level;
24 April 2020 Free webinar gives top tips on effective video therapy - Release promoting BPS webinar on how to efectively carry out therapy via video. Webinar hosted by Dr Alesia Moulton Perkins, Professor Helen Pote, and Dr Gary Latchford. Webinar accompanies guidance document published by the DCP Digital Healthcare Sub-Committee 'Effective therapy via video: Top tips';
27 April 2020 Member journey summits to continue digitally - Release promoting three BPS online events. These events will focus on the continuing member journey project and will be run joinly with the organisation Social Kinetic;
27 April 2020 BPS members invited to volunteer to support NHS staff - Release promoting call from NHS England and NHS Improvement for BPS members with experience of working with the NHS to support the wellbeing of NHS staff by volunteering for a new online peer support initiativem 'Common Rooms'. Criteria for volunteering outlined;
