2 June 2020 BPS statement on racial injustice - Release in which the BPS President David Murphy issues a statement about the organisations; commitment to racial justice within the context of the Covid-19 outbreak. Release also features a statement from Dr Deborah Husbands, senior lecturer and co-chair of BME Network at University of Westminster, member of the BPS diversity and inclusion taskforce, calling for action from BPS to address inequality accross all social characteristics;

2 June 2020 BPS offers guidance on supporting care-experienced children and young people through the coronavirus crisis and beyond - Release promoting BPS guidance entitled 'Supporting care-experienced children and young people during the Covid-19 crisis and its aftermath'. The guidance outlines some of the key psychological challenges care-experienced children and young people, and those close to them, may be facing. These include feeling unsafe, family issues and issues around birth family time, upheaval in education, training and work, and difficulty with transitions. It also provides useful advice and resources to help, both now and in the future;

3 June 2020 New guidance for psychological professions on end-of-life care - Release promoting a BPS Covid-19 bereavement task force guidance document entitled 'Talking about death –End-of-life care guidance for the psychological workforce'. Guidance offers advice to psychological professionals for assisting clients when traditional ways of helping people nearing death are being challenged.Guidance accessible in both PDF and Powerpoint format;

3 June 2020 BPS issues new guidance for psychologists on safety considerations when returning to the workplace - Release promoting BPS guidance document entitled 'Returning to the workplace: Safety considerations for practising psychologists'. Document offers advice to psychological professionals on safely returning to their physical places of work;

3 June 2020 BPS advice on supporting each other at work following the death of a colleague - Release promoting a BPS Covid-19 bereavement task force guidance document entitled 'Supporting each other following the death of a colleague’. Guidance gives advice on how to cope with returning to work following the death of a colleague and encourages employees to take advantage of the support that is available to them;

4 June 2020 New guidance for psychologists working in palliative care - Release promoting BPS guidance document entitled 'The End of Life Care pathway during the Coronavirus pandemic'. Guidance offers advice for psychologists working in palliative care during the Covid-19 pandemic, stressing the importance of involving patients in key discussion and communicating clearly;

8 June 2020 Behavioural science key to success of ‘test and trace’ app says British Psychological Society - Release promoting BPS briefing paper entitled 'Behavioural science and success of the proposed UK digital contact tracing application for Covid-19'. Paper argues that the government's proposed application must utilise insights from behavioural psychology if it is to prove successful.

9 June 2020 Pioneers and innovators honoured by BPS Practice Board - Release promoting BPS Practice Board award winners. BPS Fellow Professor Judy Hutchings was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Psychology Award for her work with the World Health Organization in the field of social learning theory. Professor Rona Moss-Morris was given the Distinguished Contribution to Practice Award for her work on the psychological factors that affect how people experience physical symptoms and the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme on long-term physical health conditions. Two awards for Innovation in Practice were granted. Dr Emma Svanberg was recognised for her use of Instagram and a website to make free resources on birth trauma available to parents and professionals. The team led by Lucie Byrne-Davis received the award for the Cards for Change project, which uses playing cards to help people learn about and use behaviour change techniques;

10 June 2020 BPS Offers advice on preventing secondary trauma for those taking distressing work home – Release promoting a BPS guidance document composed by the BPS Covid-19 working differently taskforce entitled ‘Taking trauma related work home: Advice for reducing the likelihood of secondary trauma’. Guidance advises professionals to follow the 5R framework to reduce trauma risk ‘recognise, review, respond, refresh and review, respect’, and to recognise their home as a place of refuge and relaxation;

12 June 2020 Notice of Annual General Meeting – Release advertising the BPS AGM, to be held on the 30th of June 2020 via Zoom teleconferencing software. Notes that agenda item seven (The Trustees' Annual Report, Consolidated Financial Statements and Independent Auditor’s report) will be considered at a later date;

12 June 2020 BPS publishes new guidance on remote psychological assessment of adults with learning disabilities – Release promoting a BPS guidance document composed by the Division of Clinical Psychology’s Faculty for People with Intellectual Disabilities entitled ‘Psychological assessment of adults with learning/intellectual disabilities undertaken remotely as a consequence of Covid-19’. Document makes five recommendations for assessment in this context, advising against psychometric assessments including WAIS-IV and issuing opinions within sufficient information;

16 June 2020 BPS guidance on helping children return to school in Scotland – Release promoting a BPS guidance document composed by the Scottish Division of Educational Psychology entitled ‘Compassionate transitions: Reconnecting school communities post-Covid-19 closures’. Guidance provides a psychological perspective on managing the transition of children back to School in Scotland. The document is designed to complement the Scottish Government’s Education Recovery Group;

18 June 2020 Open data ‘integral part of research’ says British Psychological Society – Release promoting a BPS position statement entitled ‘Open data’. The statement argues that open data, that being data that can be freely-used, re-used and redistributed by anyone, is an essential part of the organisations commitment to being open and transparent as possible;

19 June 2020 BPS supports a global campaign against violence in the home - Release promoting BPS support of the 'UK Says No More' campaign combatting domestic violence. Release also notes that the BPS has contributed to an information sheet giving tips to psychologists for supporting those suffereing domestic violence entitled 'Against Violence in the Home - What Psychologists Can Do';

23 June 2020 A resilience and coping framework for supporting children going back to school - Release promoting BPS Division of Education and Child Psychology guidance document entitled 'A resilience and coping framework for supporting transitions back to school'. Document seeks to help children go back to school following breaks caused by Covid-19 in a positive way, focusing on strengths, hope and children’s ability to cope, rather than the language of risk, trauma, damage or illness;

25 June 2020 BPS welcomes appointment of interim mental health champion for Northern Ireland - Release promoting the appointment of Professor Siobahan O'Neill as mental health champion for Northern Ireland. Appointment welcomed by chair of the BPS Northern Ireland branch Dr Karen Hagen;

25 June 2020 Poverty campaign extended through 2021 - Release announcing that the BPS will continue its 'From poverty to flourishing' campaign in 2021 rather than establishing a new programme through the usual BPS senate policy setting process;

29 June 2020 BPS Review of the Year 2019 - Release promoting the publication of the BPS Review of the Year;

29 June 2020 2020 Technical Support in Psychological Research and Teaching Awards - Release promoting the winners of the Association of Technical Staff in Psychology awards. Dr Shan Shen at The University of Reading shared the 2020 Research Award with a team of technicians from the University of Lincoln, including Ferenc Igali, Todd Parsons, Foivos Vantzos, Charlotte Cartledge and Andrew Irvine. The Teaching Award went to Joe Rennie Taylor and Martina Sladekova from The University of Brighton;

30 June 2020 We join 152 organisations to call on Government to put children at the heart of recovery - Release promoting BPS support of the #ChildrenattheHeart campaign, a campaign from over 150 organisations calling for the government to put children and young people at the heart of their Coronavirus response. Other signatories include Family Action, Mind and the NSPCC
