DescriptionCorrespondence and reports concerning the British Psychological Society BPS Standing Committee on Communication's project the Benefits of Psychology which started in 1985, in the light of UGC [University Grants Committee] cuts in psychology. Led by Peter Morris and then Graham Beaumont it initially surveyed the BPS subsystems asking for instances where the intervention of psychology and psychological skills has been a positive benefit. Other initiatives included
a) George Sik created a 108 strong data set on recent research and publications with key word indexing.

b) Individual psychologists were also commissioned to write reviews of their particular fields (Criminological and Legal, Cognitive, Developmental, Occupational, Social and Physiological psychology). The Committee then tried to publish extracts and/or summaries or reviews from the Benefits of Psychology archive in a number of BPS journals but were not generally successful.

Includes copies of the proceedings of the 'Benefits of Psychology' conference [First European Conference on Professional Psychology organised by the European Federation of Professional Psychologists Associations and the Swiss Society of Psychology, held in Lausanne, Switzerland, 10-12 September 1986.
