AdminHistoryThe Council of the British Psychological Society resolved on 5 October 1974 that the Society "deplores any misuse of psychology and psychiatry for political ends". This resolution was communicated to the International Union of Psychological Science IUPS and the President of the American Psychological Society. At an open meeting held during the Annual Conference in 1976 a request was made for the Society into the use of psychology for political purposes. The Professional Affairs Board convened a working party on 10 July 1976 which reported in January1978. The Council approved the report with some amendments and it was taken to the 1978 AGM. Comments were made at the AGM and the report was send back to the Professional Affairs Board and amended on 8 July 1978 and then approved by Council on 7 October 1978.
