AdminHistory | Working party established by the executive Committee of the Division of Clinical Psychology on 22 May 1978 comprised of D A Shapiro (Convenor), D J Smail (Chairman), J D Davis, H P Hildebrand, J S Marzillier (until July 1979), R K Turner, M Vaughan and F N Watts. Terms of Reference: To consider the commonalities and divergences between various approaches to psychological treatment, and the role of the DCP in pursuit of greater integration between these; To review the present state of research in the psychological therapies and consider available means of furthering the contribution of research to clinical practice; To formulate a DCP policy concerning the desirability of registration of psychotherapists, and the form any such registration should take, taking account of the recent history of the issue, the growing involvement of psychologists in private practice, and the special interests and contributions of clinical psychologists in this field; To consider the present state of training in the psychological therapies in the United Kingdom, as available to trainee and qualified clinical psychologists and to other professionals, and formulate a DCP policy concerning the future development of such training. To consider relations between clinical psychology and other professions in the field of psychological treatment, and other professions in the field of psychological treatment, and explore means of enhancing the contribution of clinical psychologists in this area.
The report of the report of the working party was submitted to the DCP Executive Committee in 1979. The report was revised by Fraser Watts and submitted to The British Psychological Society Professional Affairs Board in a form in which it could be made more widely available both within the Society and to the public. At this point comments were invited from other Divisions of the Society.
