AdminHistoryIn September 1979 The British Psychological Society Professional Affairs Board set up a working party to consider the practice of counselling, its reference to the professional interests of the Society, and to make recommendations. The terms of reference were extended to consider the broader field of counselling psychology. The working party comprised John Davis, Douglas Hamblin, James Hemming, Ruth Holdsworth, Barrie Hopson and Richard Nelson-Jones (Chairman). The working group carried out a survey on teaching and research in counselling in British Psychology Departments. They also consulted within the Society, to related organisations and interested individuals in the United Kingdom and abroad. One of the recommendations of the report was the creation of a BPS Section on Counselling Psychology [BPS/002/4/04]
