| AdminHistory | The Scientific Affairs Board of the British Psychological Society wrote a report on Psychological Aspects of Disaster during 1989-1990 reviewing the research literature and took evidence of those who had been involved in the Bradford Stadium, Zeebrugge ferry and Kings Cross fire disasters. The report included planning of safety procedures, establishment of co-ordinated plans, provision of specialist training, assessment and provision of services, interagency and profession co-operation and the role of Government. Members comprised Douglas Duckworth, Penny Dixon, Ray Woolfe, Pat Wright, Elaine Iljon Foreman, Valerie Cunningham, Francis Clegg, Ruth Williams, Mary Manolias, Wendy Harrison, David Lane.
Dr James Thompson, member of the BPS Parliamentary Group met Dr Alfred Morris, MP at a meeting of the Parliamentary Scientific Committee in 1989 and discussed the possibility of Dr Morris introducing a bill on psychological services after a disaster. The Society decided to sponsor two MPs and one of them Keith Vaz introduced the private members bill in 1991 which gained much verbal support but ran out of time when the 1992 election was called. |
