AdminHistory | Although the Patient's Charter aimed to guarantee minimum waiting times for treatment there was no data capture of waiting times for clinical psychology so the BPS Division of Clinical Psychology did a survey of 800 clinical psychologists and found that over 10,500 people were on a NHS clinical psychology waiting list with over 47000 waiting longer than six months. The report was sent to Virginia Bottomley, Secretary of State for Health on 24 November 1992.
In 1988 the BPS Membership and Qualifications Board and the Division of Clinical Psychology issued a policy statement on the implications of adopting the bursary model of training on the quality and supply of newly qualified clinical psychologist. On the 30th October 1992 news received by the BPS Committee for Training of Clinical Psychologists CTCN that the Northern Regions were proposing to move to bursaries for clinical psychology training. During November lobbying letters from Society and DCP including the Secretary of State (18 November 1992). "3 November a preliminary survey of amongst assistants by Joanne Claydon finds that 66% would reconsider their applications if bursaries introduced.
