AdminHistoryThe establishment of a National Advisory Body for Local Authority Higher Education (NAB) was announced in 1981 and set up on 1 February 1982 by the Secretary of State for Education and Science. Its function was to advise the Secretary of State on matters relating to academic provision and the approval of advanced courses.

On 31 July 1984, the Secretary of State announced that NAB would continue on a permanent basis from 1 February 1985 when it would be reconstituted and renamed the National Advisory Body for Public Sector Higher Education, although it continued to be known as NAB. By 1986, its remit had been extended to include advice on a co-ordinated approach to academic provision and the allocation of funds in respect of courses leading to qualifications higher than A Level.

NAB appears to have been wound up in 1988 when its funding responsibilities were taken over by the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council. [National Archives Discovery Site accessed 28 June 2018]
