Description | Copy, draft, mock-up and final issues of British Psychological Society newsletter 'Outlook' which ran for 5 issues between December 1985 and December 1986. Outlook was a project of the Press Committee not only to improve communication and information for members but it was also distributed to selected journalists and press contacts.
Issue 1 December 1985 - includes articles on media training; creation of UGC [University Grants Committee] and the position of psychology in higher and further education; effect of Psychological Aspects of Nuclear War; EFPPA conference on the Benefits of Psychology; policing seminar at the London Conference and selection of abstracts from the Journal of Clinical Psychology and Journal of Medical Psychology. Design, notes, draft copy, printed issues, external distribution list, and reactive correspondence to first issue.
Issue 2 February 1986 - includes archives on education cuts, press coverage at the London Conference; survey of head of Departments of Psychology; Benefits of Psychology database; letter from BPS to NAB [National Advisory Body for Public Section Higher Education] on lack of status for psychology research; statistics on the number of clinical psychologists; creation of 'Handicap Committee' and programme for BPS Annual Conference. Design, notes, draft copy, proof, printed issues. Report from Scientific Affairs Board, Membership and Qualifications Board and Professional Affairs Board.
Issue 3 May 1986 - includes response to Green Paper 'Higher Education into the 1990s'; profile of David Legge (President) and Graham Beaumont (General Secretary); evidence to Section Committee on Education, Science and the Arts on 'Achievement in the Primary School'; House of Lords Select Committee on research funds; report on the use of the polygraph [lie detector] and media training. Design, notes, draft copy, proof, printed issues.
Issue 4 July 1986 - includes Society's response to 1986 Education Bill and its effect on psychology training funding; and selected highlights from Journal abstracts. Drafts, reports on Society affairs to be published in the Bulletin, journal articles, copy, mock-up, printed issue.
Issue 5 December 1986 - includes presentation of Society report 'Psychological Aspects of Alcohol' to All Party Parliamentary Alcohol Policy and Services Group, update on local education authority inservice training scheme; threat to psychologists in Colleges of Education in Scotland; founding of Society Parliamentary Group; report on Save British Science Society. Drafts, layout, correspondence, proof and printed issue.
