DescriptionTenders, designs and correspondence relating to contract to design covers for the British Psychological Society journal 'The Psychologist'. Designer were asked to submit sample designs for issues relating to the 'Psychology of Women Section', 'Psychology in South Africa: A Debate' and [British Psychological Society] 'Annual Conference Reports'. The Psychologist Editorial Committee and Managing Editor together with the former Assistant Editor - Art (Les Prince) acting as consultant, marked
the designs and chose Geoff Harrison and Ken Smythe of Harrison-Smythe Ltd who received an initial 12 month contract.

[Note the Harrison-Smythe contract was renewed until March 1996 when it went out to tender and David Calow of Eikon - who had been runner up in 1992 was awarded the contract - see BPS/001/12/02/08/03/09 the Psychologist Correspondence 1996.]

AdminHistoryThe Psychologist is the in-house magazine for members of the British Psychological Society. The first issue was January 1988 - it was a successor to the Bulletin of the British Psychological Society [previously Quarterly Bulletin of the British Psychological Society] 1948-1987.

The Editorial Sub-Committee was a SubCommittee of the Standing Committee on Communications until December 1989. It acted as a policy making body on all issues regarding The Psychologist; act as an adviser to the Managing Editor and the Honorary Editors; act as a 'reviewer' of past issues of 'The Psychologist'

The Psychologist Editorial Committee succeeded the Editorial Sub-Committee and reported to Council. Assistant Editors were responsible for ideas and some copy for features, reviews, art work etc. There was also a team of Associate Editors who were responsible for generating and reviewing academic articles.
