| AdminHistory | The idea of 'Notes for Contributors' was originally considered in 1955 and then in 1966 Ralph Hetherington and Robert Audley were tasked by the Standing Committee of Publications with creating a booklet of 'Suggestions to Authors' published in 1967 and printed by Cambridge University Press, it was revised in 1971 to take into account metrification and also author copyright. It was decided in 1977 to create a comprehensive style guide to replace the Guide for Authors. The 'Style Guide' was published in 1979, revised and updated 1989; rewritten 1999; republished 2000.
In 2001 the Publications and Communications Board decided that most of the British Psychological Society Journals should follow the Publication Manual of the
American Psychological Association, the 'Style Guide' was revised 2004 to take into account the house style used by The Psychologist and to be used for all non research publications. It was revised in 2015 as 'Style Guide for authors and editors' and further revised in September 2016. |
