AdminHistoryA General Purposes Committee concerned with the preparation of business for BPS Council was constituted in 1959.
The Finance Committee of the BPS was in existence during the 1950s however it is not known the exact date of the constitution of the Finance Committee.
In 1960 a Finance and General Purposes Committee is first mentioned in the BPS Annual Report (Chair, The BPS President) which (prima facie) is apparently an amalgamation of the two committees.

In turn the Finance and General Purposes Committee became known as the Board of Directors (in 1998 after a review by Chris Brotheron of the Society's structure.) with the Chairs of the main Boards and Committees as Directors.

In 2002 the BPS received approval from Privy Council for changes to its Charter and Statutes which allows transfer of Trustee status from the Council to an expanded Board of Directors named the Board of Trustees. (BPS Council became the Representative Council).
