AdminHistory | The British Psychological Society Conference Programme Committee started on 23 April 1969 'the Conference programme subcommittee shall be responsible for the organisation of the programmes of the London and Annual Conferences and to advise on programmes of Scientific meetings general. After the restructure of the Society in 1973 the Committee came under the auspices of the Scientific Affairs Board. Its Chairman [or Honorary Conference Secretary] was often co-opted onto Council. After 1978 - a separate annual report on their achievements and policies was included in the Annual Report. In 1982 it became the Standing Conference Committee tasked with not only refereeing submitted papers but planning and organising the conferences themselves.
A review in 1992 led to clearer themed conferences, a current trends strand, the additional of professional development training at the Annual Conference and a desire for more links with subsystems conferences. After difficulties with the 1997 conference venue led to a loss of confidence by exhibitors and reductions in delegates another review of was held in 1998-1999.
In 2008 a British Psychological Society restructure meant that the Standing Conference Committee reported to the Publications and Communications Board. An executive committee was formed in c. 2010.
The Standing Conference Committee returned to Research Board [Scientific Affairs Board] in 2012 and was renamed Conference and Events Committee in 2021 with a broad strategic aim to to ensure an inclusive, collaborative and strategic approach to the main conferences and events of the Society. |
