DescriptionProceedings of a symposium arranged by the British Psychological Society (BPS) in collaboration with the Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID) and the College of Teachers of the Deaf on The Psychological Study of Deafness and Hearing Impairment, held at the Institute of Child Health. The symposium was chaired by James Lumsden and papers were read by Michael Raead (The Definition and Assessment of Hearing Impairment); M M Lewis (The Orectic Language of Deaf Children); G M Montgomery (The Vocational Guidance of Deaf Adolescents), Ian G Taylor (Disorders of Communication in Deaf and Hearing -Impaired Children); J C Denmark (Mental Illness and Early Profound Deafness); M Roddeea (Social Adjustments of Deaf Adolescents). Also includes a general overview of 'areas of need' and research raised during the meeting.
