AdminHistory | A report was 'The Reorganization of the Society' published in March 1972 led to the appointment In 1973 of a Secretary-General of the British Psychological Society and it was initially held by Dr R R Hetherington. Later the role of Secretary-General was changed to Scientific & Professional Secretary and this was changed again in 1986 to Executive Secretary. This role was held by Colin V Newman until 2000.
A role of Executive Secretary had been created in 1960 and was held by F Harry Partridge until August 1977. It was concerned with the business, legal and financial aspects of the Society's work. When Allan Sakne took over this role 1977-1999 his title was changed to Business Manager. Sakne had been appointed the previous year and organised the headquarters move to Leicester.
A new post of Chief Executive combining the previous roles held by Allan Sakne, Business Manager and Colin Newman Executive Secretary was created in 2000. |
