AdminHistory | Until 1941 new members were voted in by Members - after the incorporation of the British Psychological Society - they were considered by the Standing Committee of Council [or Standing Committee on Membership] and then ratified by Council.
The earliest records we hold from the work of the Council Standing Committee on Membership (SCM) are from 1946. The SCM ran until 1989.
After the Membership and Qualifications Board was formed in 1985 they oversaw strategy and standards for Membership, and after the British Sociaty began its formal role in the registering of Chartered Psychologists, in 1988 two new sub-committees, reporting to MQB, took over responsibility of admitting new members.
These new sub-committees were known as the Postgraduate Admissions Committee (PAC) and Graduate Admissions Committee (GAC). These committees ran until 1993, when they became known, respectively, as the Admissions Comittee (AC), and the Graduate Qualifications Accreditation Committee, (GQAC). |
