AdminHistoryIn February 1984 a letter was published in the BPS Bulletin proposing that the Society establish a new Division of Teachers of Psychology - a special group was proposed instead with an informal meeting being held in December 1984 chaired by John Radford, with Nicky Hayes as Secretary [report in Psychology Teaching Bulletin of the Association for the Teaching of Psychology April 1985].

The group launched a Diploma in the Applied Psychology of Teaching at the 1990 London Conference. It became the Division for Teachers and Researchers in Psychology [DTRP] in December 1997. It aimed to be the professional home for any psychologist whose principal activities are in research, in teaching, or in a combination of both. It was formed to address the professional issues which concern that significant proportion of the Society's membership who do not offer direct psychological services to client groups, but undertake academic duties in schools, colleges, universities, and research establishments (or are undergoing training to equip themselves for careers in these settings), and through their work provide and disseminate essential elements of the knowledge base on which a range of professions, including psychology. It was later renamed the Division of Academics, Research & Teachers in Psychology (DARTP).

The first annnual conference was held 6-7 June 2018
