DescriptionReport titled 'The Selection of Recruits for Referral to Army Psychiatrists by Means of G.S. Tests.' (no. 54) by Philip E. Vernon.
The report first presents the current referral system, wherein recruits scoring low on Matrix tests, as well as those low in combatant temeprament, or ones seen as emotionally abnormal or neurotic can be referred to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist then evaluates the recruit and provides further recommendation. However, to improve the efficiency of this process, it is desirable to classify cases by a specific score. As such, a sample of recruits was used to investigate a possibility of a single test for referral. The report explains that understanding which mental performance tests yiled high validity for referral cases will allow for creating a reliable battery of tests. Data related to the tests of ability acorss the sample is presented, alongside detailed explanations. However, overall, no evidence was found for a specific type of performance across individuals who require psychiatric referrals.
