DescriptionReport titled 'S.P. Test Follow-Up Report No. 14b' (no. 49) by Philip E. Vernon.
The report focuses on the reliability and validity of the progressive matrices test. In Part I, it outlines the statistical evidence for this claim. This includes comparison to other tests of ability, as well as correlations of test scores and training proficiency. The Matrices are then evaluated for factor content, data for which is presented in a table. However, the report notes that using a batter of tests such as SP yields more reliable results than using the Matrices as a standalone test. Furthermore, it has rather poor consistency, implying that performance on the test is dependent on many uncontrolled factors, such as mood or fatigue. In Part II, further investigation is conducted for the reliability of the Matrix Test. Correlations and grade discrepancies between tests are presented in data tables. The report concludes by highlighting that the scope of the investigation is limited, showcasing a number of limitations.
