Description | Copy and edited drafts of 'A Mainly Behavioural Stroll Down Memory Lane UK While There is Still Someone Left to Remember' typescript memoirs of Cyril Maurice Franks (1924-2015), including his studying for a diploma and then PHD in conditioning and behaviour therapy (1954) under Hans J Eysenck at the Maudsley in London, and then being appointed a lecturer at the Maudsley until c. 1967 when he became Director of Psychology at Princeton's Neuropsychiatric Institute. Later he was appointed Professor of Psychology at Rutgers University, first President of the American Association of Behaviour Therapy, Editor of 'Behaviour Therapy' and of 'Child and Family Behaviour Therapy.'
Franks talks about the importance of changes from psychodynamic clinical psychology to a data based mental health paradigm.
Mentions the friendship and influences of Sybil and Hans Eysenck, Jack Tizard, Joseph Wolpe, Arnold Lazarus, Anna Freud, Emmanuel Miller, Aseneth Petrie, Peter Broadhurst, Ann Clark, Derek Trouton, Ardie Lubin, Monte Shapiro, Stuart Southerland, Victor Meyer, Roger Russell, Frederick Smith, Michael Argyle, Arthur Staats, Sydney Lovibond, Albert Ellis and Dorothy Susskind.
Includes also correspondence concerning possible publication of the article in 'The Psychologist' [from Acc/0129] and a photograph of Franks and his wife, Violet (2010) |
