Steve Newstead is Emeritus Professor of Psychology at the University of Plymouth, where he worked for most of his career, latterly on the management side (including a spell as Vice-Chancellor). His research interests include cognitive psychology (mainly thinking and reasoning) and the psychology of higher education (including academic dishonesty and biases in assessment). He served as President of the BPS from 1995-1996, and numerous committees including chairing the group which drew up the initial benchmarking statement for psychology. He has been active in the Division of Academics Researchers and Teachers in Psychology in a variety of roles; chaired the Centenary Sub Committee in the BPS Centenary year His interests are in education and since retiring has served as an academic consultant to psychology programmes both in the UK and abroad. He is a Teaching of Psychology Award Holder He currently holds a number of trusteeships, including one at the Daphne Jackson Trust, a charity supporting scientific researchers returning to research careers following a career break. |
