| Activity | First meeting was held on 28 January 1956 at 7 Lennoxvale Malone Road, Belfast. George Seth was elected the first Chairman. A portrait of Professor Seth was commissioned in 1979.
In 1957 the branch had 27 members and 6 student subscribers, by 1965 there were 54 members, 4 subscribers and 25 Students and by 1969 membrship had grown to 76 Members and 3 subscribers and 6 student members. Automatic membership of a branch or region grew Northern Ireland Branch members to 206 by 1975.
Joint Meetings were often held with the Ulster Neuropsychiatric Society. The first two day conference was held in 1967. In 1973 a three day conference was held at Park Hotel County Cavan, which became the venue of choice until 1979, where it moved to Rosapenna (1980-1983, 1986). Discussions started the next year about setting up a regional office which opened in 1976 in the Psychology Department at Queens University Belfast. The Regional Office represented Northern Ireland psychologists interests to government departments and other organizations. In 1978 the Regional Office organised a cross disciplinary conference on the problems of children in Northern Ireland which was attended by 190 delegates and in 1980 a conference on alcohol consumption in Northern Ireland. A Student Psychologist of the Year Competition was held, the awards presented at the annual Congress of Psychology Students of Ireland.
The Psychological Society of Ireland PSI was founded in 1970 with BPS representation on their council, and in the 1980s joint annual meetings were held.
