| Activity | The British Psychological Society ad hoc Publications Committee created ? 1954 was replaced by a Standing Committee on Publications in 1955 initially to consist of the editors of each of the Society's publications to consider policy, new publications and finance. In 1975 a working party was established to look into the possibility of publishing books which would provide information about psychology to the general public.
The Standing Committee on Publication ran until 1983 when three new intersecting Committees were set up under the umbrella of the Standing Committee on Publications
1) Journals Committee - similar in constitution to the Standing Committee, with Senior Editors of the Society's Journals Advising on Journal Policy and Editorial Considerations. This Committee ran until 2004 when Journals publishing was subcontracted to Wiley
2) Books and Special Projects Group [BPSG] [BPS/001/01/01/01] - running in parallel with the Journals Committee and considerings books and non-book publishing projects. The Committee ran until 2001 when books publishing was subcontracted to Wiley
3) General Committee - constituted from members of the other two groups with Special Responsibility for commerical policy and liaison with Council and other Bodies. The general coordinating Committee did not really take off. In 1988 it was agreed that the General Committee be disbanded and that the Books and Special Projects Group and the Journals Group have the status of standing committees.
