ActivityBritish Psychological Society Education Section was founded in 1919 (one of the first three sections of the Society).

The British Journal of Educational Psychology was published from 1931 - the same year that the Section submitted a memorandum to the consultative committee of the Board of Education on Education of Children Under Seven Years of Age

The Education Section Committee sought and was granted provisional approval by the Council in October 2002, to change the name of the Education Section to the Psychology of Education Section subject to approval by a vote of the Section Members. Originally, the proposed change was agreed by the Section Membership at the Annual General Meeting held on 6th November 1999. Due to a change in officers, the necessary steps were not taken following the AGM to obtain Council approval at that time. Name change confirmed to Psychology of Education Section in 2003.

The section promotes psychology in education and the interests of psychologists engaged in schools, further and higher education, child guidance and the wider community. Its aims are:

To promote the study and discussion of psychology in education.
To stimulate research into matters related to the psychological aspects of education.
To provide a forum for the discussion and exchange of ideas among those interested in the psychological aspects of education.
To offer advice to the Society on matters related to psychological aspects of education and the training of teachers.
It achieves these aims in three ways:

Communication of research findings;
Lively discussion of contemporary issues both scientific and professional.
Development of policy on key issues affecting psychology and psychologists in education.
