AdminHistory | David Stevens graduated from Birkbeck College (B.Sc. Psychology, (Special Hons)) in 1968. In 1982 David Stevens postgraduate studies at London School of Economics & Political Science resulted in the award of M.Sc. in Social Psychology.
From 1973-74 David Stevens was a temporary lecturer ( Dept.of Psychology), University of Durham. From 1974-76 David Stevens was appointed by Durham as temporary lecturer in psychology at the college of St.Hild & St. Bede. From 1976 to 1978 Stevens was temporary lecturer in Psychology, School of Education, University of Southampton. From 1978 to 1982 David Stevens was a lecturer at the Educational Development Unit, Ealing College of Higher Education where he became senior lecturer in psychology ( Ealing now Thames Valley University) until his retirement.
Stevens was a BPS Chartered Psychologist and died in 2009.
In 2003 David Stevens undertook personal research on the dreams of WWII PoW's based on Major Hopkins' handwritten World War II diaries housed in the archives of the British Psychological Society, History of Psychology Centre (HoPC).
In March 2004, a presentation entitled 'Dreaming of Blighty: the PoW dream research of Major Hopkins' was given by David Stevens for the BPS/Wellcome Institute History of Psychology Research Seminar at the British Psychological Society, History of Psychology Centre (HoPC) archives in John Street London. In April 2004, David Stevens' presentation entitled ' Bully, Sardines and Orange Crystals: food and eating in the dreams of Major Hopkins collection' was given at the British Psychological Society, History and Philosophy of Psychology Section's annual conference held at York.
In June 2004 David Stevens' gave his last presentation of that year entitled 'Major Hopkins' Dream Collection: 391 PoW dreams from WWII' at the 21st annual conference of the International Association for the Study of Dreams in Copenhagen. All three of the aforementioned seminar presentations were to be submitted as articles for various psychological journals in 2004 and 2005.
After his death in 2009 it was decided by the British Psychological Society, History of Psychology Centre (HoPC) to explore the possibility of an individual continuing David Stevens' personal research on Major Hopkins' diaries based on his original research papers. |
