6-notebooks concerning Major Hopkins' dream research consisting of:
1- Black leather handwritten notebook [Vol.I] with Major K.D.Hopkins, No.411, Room 11 written in pencil on the inside front cover.Inserted inside the front cover is a letter from J.B. Garrick S. Martin's College, Lancaster to Dr. A.D.Lovie- Archivist, B.P.S. University of Liverpool dated 1 March 1989 concerning the discovery of two more notebooks and a letter from R.G.Boulton, Major. R.A. to Prof. C.W.Valentine dated 19th, April 1945 enclosing the notebooks. Inside the back cover is a letter from Valentine to Major. Hopkins dated 8/11/1940 glued on to the page [now separated and placed in to the folder below].
The notebook is entitled 'Case Index' and contains indexes and summaries of contributions and dreams spread over a monthly period, the year is not recorded
1-Black leather handwritten notebook [Vol.II]with Major K.D.Hopkins 411, Vol.II. Nos 181-334 handwritten to the cover page, the contents appear to be handwritten accounts of dreams numbered 31/181/12, 13 July to 31/334/ 11, 12 Aug.The pages are numbered in pencil 193 to 336
1- Black leather handwritten notebook [Vol.III] with Major K.D.Hopkins 411, Vol.III. Nos 335-466 handwritten to the cover page, the contents appear to be a continuation of handwritten accounts of dreams from 22/335/12, 13 Aug. to 6/466 7,8 Oct. Numbered 337 to 480
1-Pink exercise notebook [Vol.IV] with Major K.D.Hopkins 411, Vol.IV. Nos 467-517 handwritten to the cover page, the contents appear to be a continuation of handwritten accounts of dreams from 3/467/ 7, 8 Oct. to 12/517/ 11, 12 Dec. numbered 481 to 560
1-Pink exercise book [Vol.V] with Major K.D.Hopkins 411, Vol.V Nos 518- 532, M1 - M39 handwritten to the cover page, the contents appear to be a continuation of handwritten accounts of dreams from 11/518/ 10, 11 Dec. to 75/532/ 30 April, 1 May, then a new category entitled 'Miscellaneous Dreams' begins a new series of numbers staring from M1/ 31 26 May to 2 June 1940 to 89/M39/ 18,19 June 42, numbered 561 to 640
1- Grey Notebook with Major K.D.Hopkins, No.411, Rm 4. Hut 13 handwritten to the cover page,
a loose letter from Major Hopkins soliciting contributions, handwritten in pencil and circled 21 is inserted inside the first page
Contents appear to be lecture and profile notes, some pages dated 21/28-04-1942

| AdminHistory | Major Kenneth D. Hopkins was born on 5th June 1900, in Handsworth, West Bromwich, Stafford. He trained as a teacher at Birmingham University 1917-1920 , where Professor Valentine was his tutor in psychology. In 1920 Hopkins was appointed Teacher of Chemistry and gymnastics at the County High School, Worcestershire. In 1934 Hopkins married Lily Oliver and they lived in Edgbaston. Between 1935 and 1938 he undertook a part time MA in Education, his supervisor was Professor Valentine. In 1922 Hopkins joined the Territorial Army 8th Battalion, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment and rose from Lieutenant to Major before World War II and his call-up in August 1939. Major Hopkins went to France and was captured in May 1940 after Dunkirk and imprisoned first in Oflag VIIc at Laufen, then moved to Oflag IX A/H Spangenberg, then in hospitals at Obermassfeld and finally Hildburghausen where he died and was buried in September 1942.
